Degrees and Certifications:

Mrs. McKinley

Hi, my name is Sara McKinley and I am the school counselor at the Browns Valley School. This is my third year at Browns Valley and my sixth year in education. I love working here because we have such great students, families, and staff. Part of my time is spent in classrooms where I teach the MindUp and Second Step programs. These curriculums help improve students social-emotional learning, think about their values, and make good choices. I also meet individually with students for many different reasons including: self-esteem, anxiety, friendship issues, and grief, along with many others. What students choose to share with me is confidential, with the exception of situations where they or someone else is getting hurt or at-risk of getting hurt, or they give me permission to share with a certain person. Some students only meet with me a few times while others are on my schedule long term. If you have any questions or want me to meet with your child please contact me or the office.

I attended the University of Minnesota where I received a Bachelors degree in Human Services and South Dakota State University where I received my Masters in school counseling. Outside of school I enjoy spending time with my family, reading, being at the lake, traveling, and gardening. I live on a farm with my husband Kyle and our two children, Gentry and Lachlyn.
